Balancing MVHR
Ambaz79 replied to Ambaz79's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
No idea sorry. I just got it like this. -
Hello Our Builder has installed an MVHR and I had some advice on designing the system on a different thread earlier in the year. We have now moved in and are running the system on a general setting however none of the vents/extracts have been balanced. I have borrowed the Anenometer but I cant get my head round the sheet and how to correlate this with the meter we have. Is there anyway someone can help with this. Few points thats might be questioned on the design of the ducts. 1, Living room and supply and extract as we plan to have a Log Burner. 2, Temple Room - We do Diva's and Jot Sticks so I have added an extract above where this going to be to remove the smoke more than anything. 3, House is divided into left and right via Manifolds on either side. 4, System used here is the Holtop XHBQ-D10DMTHA (Its the factory that make the Mitsubishi Losnay MVHR). 5, Ducting used is BPC's Quiet Vent Ducting and 4 of there 10 Spigot Manifolds. 5, on the drawing where I show the MVHR Duct positions I have labeled the positions with 2 if they have 2 x 75mm Rigid ducting running to them. The rest just have a single pipe running to them. Happy to clarify if there are any other questions. I just need to work out what I need to get the m/s to on the testo anenomter per room. Thanks allot in advance! MVHR Room Size.xlsx Holtop Manual- XHBQ-DMTHA with touch screen controller (4).pdf WhatsApp Video 2023-10-25 at 13.59.19.mp4

Thanks im gonna go with the Filter + sodium hypochlorite. See how this goes to start with if it needs the UV I will prep the pipes so I can add it later. Thanks for the help!

We are in the process of doing our garden. We would like a water feature similar to the one in the picture. It would be around 240cm x 50cm and about 40cm deep. Please is to have 4 small water fountains in it with some LED Lighting ect. Now the question is how do I keep this from going green and messy. Would I just put a standard fish tank filter in somewhere? or do I just leave it and add clorine every now and then?

Thanks for this! Had an amazing hot shower that was thermostaically controlled. All working fine now!

Hello We have a 8Kwh Mitsubishi Ecodan HP and 12Kwh of Solar on the roof. Plan in the next 6 months would be to add a battery storage solution once we have some figures on how much we are actually generating/using/selling. Also no Electric car yet but looking to buy one in Jan 2024. I am currently with EDF of an out of contract plan so need to switch soon. Looking online and octopus seem to be the only ones I can find that have plans for ASHP or Solar. Is there anyone else that offers plans if you have both? Or for now do we need to either pick the ASHP and find the best plan for this? or solar and best plan for that? Bit of a minefield, any help welcome!

Problem solved. When I switched the pipes in the loft it turns out I switches the pipes for the Sink not the Shower Mixer. What I did was from the wall switch the shower mixer upside down so the pipes then 100% changed and the mixer started working. Now we just need to locate where the shower pipes come from maybe under the loft boards but not a major job to change. Plumber coming in next few days to sort it out. Apologies for wasting everyones time!

Yes Showers all the same Although they are not any major brand.
-
Yes this was fitted by our installer for the air source heat pump. He installed the HP and all the bits that go with it and then my builder ran the pipe work.
-
For hot water we have a 22mm pipe ring and we have T'd down to the shower with a 15mm Pipe. The 22mm Pipe then returns back to the tank where we have a Circulating pump to keep the water warm in the pipe. Even with the pump off it makes no difference.
-
So when we turn the thermostatic controller clockwise its giving the hot water. when I switched the pipes going into the shower it stayed that we need to turn clockwise to get the hot water. Im not sure if they did require non return valves. All the pipework is in the wall so would not be able to check. The way I switched the pipes is from the loft as we have access there to the pipework where it T's down to the shower. Can I fit a non return valve there? Also would it go on the hot or cold side?

On day one we were storing water at 50C however as this did not mix it was too hot to have a shower as a temporary fix I have dropped it to 42C. The problem is there in both cases. The lowest the HP can heat the water from the settings is 40C so we are not far off that now. Yes the problem is only the shower mixers. Taps around the house are not affected at all and work fine.

Hello I have the MVHR all installed and now just need to set the flow rate for each room. I'm sure I have seen there is a Anemomitor available to borrow if I leave a deposit. Please can someone point me on how to get this organised?

Hello We have 3 Thermostatic showers that are fed by a 300L Presurerised Cylinder. Water is heated by Ecodan ASHP but not sure this make any difference. For some reason the showers will only give hot water or cold water. If we are on hot and turn the Thermostat the water stays same temp to a certain point and then switches to total cold water if we turn it anymore. We have tried to swap the pipers for the hot and cold water into the shower but this has done nothing and the hot is still coming from the same side. Would you say this is a issue with all 3 shower Thermostats or a plumbing problem where the shower is not compatible with the water pressure?

Hello We have built 2 Balconys on the back of our house that are internal where part of the room has been taken back to create a external space but still under the main roof. We are fitting 3 glazed planels as the balastrade however we still will have some rain come in on windy days and I wanted to know the best way to make this area waterproof as we have our Living room under one and Kitchen under the other balcony area. The plan is to tile the balcony floors. Area is roughly for each balcony is about 1.5M x 4M. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use to make these areas water tight?

Fire Rated Plasterboards in bricked hallway.
Ambaz79 replied to Ambaz79's topic in Plastering & Rendering
Hello, Yes the plan is to plaster board and then skim anyway so maybe I am overthinking it. I might just get this done with Fire rated board and be done with it then we tick the box if the question is ever asked. I think this was more a question to see is we can save a few pounds but in the grand scheme of things I guess this is worth the extra spend just for piece of mind (just like the other 999 items we have over spent on lol). Thanks -
WhatsApp Video 2022-12-02 at 09.50.59.mp4 WhatsApp Video 2022-12-02 at 09.50.58.mp4 Hello, We are plasterboarding the house currently and have a question. We have been told by our building inspector that the hallway needs to be plasterboarded in Fire Rated Plasterboard. Now the hall way is in the old part of the house and all the walls in the hallway are the original structure made of bricks. As this is the case do we still need to use fire rated plasterboard here as its bricks on the ground floor and first floor? We do have stairs going to a loft that we are using as storage however will need to create a partition wall around the stairs going up there and I understand we would need to use fire rated plasterboard here. I have attached a video to show the current hallway.

Hello Thanks for all the pointers. Here are some reasons I have put the ducts where they are. Lounge is going to have a Log Burner so I thought I could use the Log Burner to heat the room and the Extract to move the heat around the house. Study is actually our temple room where we burn insent sticks and Oil Candle so I just wanted a way to move the smoke out. I have not really reaseched if its a good idea but just seemed to make sense when I did it. The Cupboard where we have the extract is where the Manifold for the UFH, Fuse board and a number of transformers for the LED Lights we are running in the ceiling. So again the idea was to recirculate any heat generated by this. I was 50/50 about hallway and could remove this. Ive been told due to the size of the kitchen it would be better to have a supply and extract there. Would you suggest I change any of the above? I will move the extracts in the bathrooms to be directly above the showers. I will also move the supply to be more away from the extracts. Thanks allot for all these pointers.

Hello I am designing the MVHR for the house and not sure if to have some rooms with 2 duct pipes running to the plenum or 1. MVHR Unit will be in the loft and there are some runs that are around 15M. We are using the 75mm Flexible Semi-Rigid Ducting from BPC. Builder is installing this for me however never done this before. He understand the basic priciples of the system. Living room and Kitchen are the ones that are around 15M away from MVHR Unit at Max. Attached the room sizes however this is Block walls so we need to consider the rooms will be dot and dab plastered so will become a bit smaller. Also Ensuit designs is not as per the MVHR drawing not the one with the image with sizes. I have read somewhere that if runs are more tha 7M then we should run 2 pipes to the plenums. Is there any rule of thumb we should be working to on this? Sorry if there is not enough info but can provide whatever is needed. Thanks in Advance!

We have now completed the roof and are looking for the best ways to insulate the roof to meet building regs. Roof is approxitmatly 250 Sqm and we have stairs going up to the loft and will be using it for storage and maybe a Cinema Room at some point in the future. I have attahed some pictures and a video before the roof was tiled and completed. I also have 31 Solar panels inset on the roof onto the South, East and West side. Looking for the most cost effective way of doing this. Thanks for your help in Advance 1807495119_WhatsAppVideo2022-11-15at12_11_59.mp4
