We have had a request from planning for further details on our proposed double garage/workshop. Has anyone got any advice re: what to include, so we don't have problems later in terms of space or functionality?? Was hoping for storage for 2 cars (with an electric charging point) and a workshop/store - Might be able to get 3 phase in there if I can twist Scottish Powers arms too. Cheers in advance

Thanks Dave - We had a light water flow throughout the static direct from the upper IBC without the pump, so that wasn't the issue - It wasnt enough to fill and run the combi boiler. The salamander was meant to have a green light whenever activated, but that never came on despite efforts to get rid of any potential air locks and back priming it.

Cheers - like this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254302845626?epid=14012074259&hash=item3b35a17aba:g:H6AAAOSwjvxdMc4U

yes, That's exactly what we did ? but It didn't work - plumber said there was a bar going into the pump - I took it back to screwfix.

yeah it was this one https://www.salamanderpumps.co.uk/product/homeboost/11

We tried putting the finger over the output to up the pressure and get it going, but nothing - There should be more than enough power to get the water into the van from a £300 pump agreed

The plumber reckoned it was the difference in height between the valve on the top IBC tank and the actual height above ground level of the sink, central heating boiler and toilet, causing a negative pressure difference ?? It was a salamander pump, but it did nothing.

We have a constant supply going (very slowly) to the top tank from a previous old supply - Just enough to keep it moving. and we're using bottled water for cooking, washing up etc - Just tying to get some temp supply for flushing toilets and showers. Can cover with tarps if required.

Hi there folks. We have 2, stacked, IBC tanks which we were hoping to run a supply to the static caravan with, using an inline booster pump. We bought a salamander pump and connected it up. However, due to the height of the sinks and appliances in the van, we appear to have a negative pressure and the pump wouldn't work. We thought the output of the top tank was about a bar and that would be sufficient. So, before we have to get a third IBC tank stacked up on top, does anyone have any suggestions, it's a temporary solution until Scottish water get their act together and give us mains on site.

Didn't realise it was a heap of junk - Thankfully, I just borrowed it from a mate - I'll get on the phone to speedy and hire a decent single phase one - Have an electricity install date of the 30th anyway

Thank you Mark - I'll grab a plug later and give it a try

Thanks Mark, it's this generator - Its a German model, with a really terrible manual - I need to change the connector too - Currently trying to source a wiring diagram We really only need to run the electrics for the gas boiler, the lights and a TV, daily hoover and shower, occasional kettle - all the rest is gas.

We've signed up with Octopus to install a meter and have an install date for the main supply from scottish Power in 2 weeks. Here's hoping In the meantime, bought a static caravan thinking I could run it with a generator until the install - Hmmmm Caravan is a 32A supply, (pretty hefty) generator output is 16A - Totally different connectors - Trying to locate an electrician to advise.

Yeah - We are - And, we have only done pre planning re: site access so far !! Although the plot was previously granted permission for 4 houses, which still stands.

We have agreed to pay Scottish Power (The network owner) to run cable to our site as a temporary connection, but they have said we require to have a meter installed after that. Does anyone have any tips/preferences/avoid at all cost advice re: putting the meter in?? Thanks in advance.

Thanks John - The main water pipe for the village passes right across the site, but it would be about 15-20m South of where the house would be situated. I replied to Scottish Power today asking about an alternative 10m route, the possibility of providing our own armoured cable and have started looking into alternative providers.

Hi folks, We have purchased an unserviced plot, within a village boundary without mains gas. I have been in touch with Scottish Power and Scottish Water (the owners of the infrastructure) re: connecting utilities on the site. There are houses on both sides of the plot, with existing connections. The electricity connection would be an approx 35m run from the nearest supply, including 1m across a public pavement. I have been quoted £3000 to connect this by Scottish Power. The water main runs straight through the site. Will we be able to connect directly? How much (approx) should we budget for water and sewage connection? Anybody got any experience of using other suppliers to undertake the works? Any you can recommend - Or not??

Hi folks, We are based in Fife, Scotland. We have been looking to undertake a new build for a number of years, having previously successfully converted a barn attached to our house and converted existing accommodation to letting rooms at our business premises. We have submitted a pre planning application for an unserviced plot, in an attempt to solve access issues before committing to purchase and have been researching timber kits and providers, air source heat pumps, utilities providers and landscaping with a view to getting the build underway as soon as we get a reply. So, just looking for advice for our project and reassurance as we go on that we're not completely barking and making every mistake going.
