  1. Thanks for the note Ferdinand, and good point for the insulation. I'll add a picture of the current plan to give a better idea of what we are playing with.
  2. Our single extension wall is set to an inward angle. The previous owners did this to preserve the garage. As part of the downstairs remodel I'm going to do, I want to straighten the extension wall inline with the rest of the house. The angle is very shallow and it's likely the end of the wall would only move 20cms. We have an architect doing some hand drawings to help with the downstairs layout and he thinks we will need to get planning permission to move the wall. I don't really understand why this wouldn't be covered under permitted development. The existing extension is 3 metres and so within the permitted development guidelines of 3 meters. Moving the wall would only line it up to the side of the house and so would not extend beyond the original house side wall, which is another stipulation for permitted development. I really want to make the wall straight but planning would be a lot of effort for the sake of gaining 20cm. It would be great to hear what you guys think.
  3. Hi all, New to this but hoping I can throw the odd question out to those with more experience. The house already has a 3m single story extension done back in the 80's. The extension is sound but not very well insulated in the roof or outer wall. The original owners decided to extend the galley kitchen and to have a third room at the back. Essentially from the front living room to the back is open through 2 arches. This has resulted in the middle room being pretty useless. The plan is to knock down the galley kitchen wall and wall up the living room so the back of the house would be open plan. Barring the odd decision to extend the galley kitchen, the previous owners also decided to keep the garage to which resulted in the extension wall being angled inwards. Ideally I plan to knock down the garage and rebuild the extension wall to be straight and inline with the rest of the house.
