  1. Hi can anybody recommend some reliable places for buying radiators. I am after standard type 22 rads but don't mind paying abit more for quality. I have had some from Screwfix previously and have to say was not impressed with the quality and most of the grills were damaged. Another bad point was the amount of rust that came out from inside was shocking, considering they were brand new. Any recommended brands would be appreciated. Thanks Lee
  2. Hi, would it not be easier to build your studwork on a thick gauge dpc and then fixing to your screed with some sort of mechanical anchor, i.e thunderbolts. This would eliminate any chance of moisture tracking through into the timber.
  3. I have just checked my invoice, I was charged £9.85 + vat per board but I don't know if the wood colours are more expensive though. Hope this helps
  4. I haven't got anything to say against Hardy Plank as I have never used it, all I know is they are 10mm smaller in width and 2mm smaller in thickness. I got my first price through my Jewson rep which I thought was a little expensive for the amount I was ordering. I then decided to contact a firm called Southern Sheeting which I know alot of the merchants get Marley Cedral from. I got a much better price saving about £2 per board but I suppose its who you speak to on the day. I then went beck to my Jewson rep who then miraculously managed to reduce his price by the same plus a few savings on trims. Happy Days its all about playing the game http://www.southernsheeting.co.uk/
  5. Hi Jane, I did not really consider anything else as I have used Marley previously on a few other jobs. I prefer to go with what I know and allowed me to get a total cost for that side of the build. As I knew what price I paid for boards, I made sure I was given a big discount as it was for myself and that I was ordering 230 boards.
  6. Hi, I have just finished cladding my build in Marley Eternit Cedral Lap. It looks nice and is very strong but the main appeal was its maintenance free. Its fairly expensive when you start adding all the different trims required but nothing is cheap material wise these days. The one good thing is there are a variety of different colours available to complement any build style and colour scheme. I have attached a couple of images for you.
  7. Hi guys, thanks I'm sure there will be hurdles along the rest of the build.
  8. Evening to everyone, My name is Lee and I am a chippy by trade and have just stumbled across Buildhub whilst searching the Internet far and wide for various questions and answers in relation to self building. I am currently about halfway through the build for myself located in Whitstable, Kent and have to say it is the most stressful but rewarding thing I have done. Having had a fair bit of time to wait before I could start the build, I managed to research and find suppliers of materials in advance and has been vital as I unfortunately do not have a "Grand Designs" budget. Along with my father who is also in the trade, we have built the (stick build) timber frame on site and plan to do the majority of the internal work ourselves i.e kitchen, bathroom, insulating, airtightness and plaster boarding. The remaining jobs will obviously need specialist trades on the job. I have worked on new build sites before but have never really needed to get involved in the administrative side and that has been a real eye opener but again just another step to getting to the finish line. I'm sure I will have some questions for you guys if you are able to help it would be much appreciated and in turn if I can be any help I will. Thanks Lee
