Hi all Ive just laid some 22mm p5 grade chipboard over timber joists, 400mm centres, glued and screwed. Im reading conflicting info about whether i need to nog where the board edges are not on a joist? ive been told that if id cut every board to fit on a joist that would have been ideal, sounds obvious now but it my first time and ive dropped a clanger not doing that : ( as far as i can see NHBC standards say all short edges should be nogged Anyone had direct experience of this? thanks

yes, ive def thought about that. Ive done my calculations and there will be circa £8k VAT to reclaim, but to live there for 12 months so as not to upset the VAT man would cost more than i could claim back in VAT anyway. So then i have to factor in the CGT and see which is the best option theres no clear answer as far as i can see, all depends on what the tax man decides and if you choose to fight it

Hi all Im coming to get the doorways built in my new house, and am i right in thinking that the main entrance door, as to be used by wheelchairs should have a clear opening of 900mm? its part M i think. Thats the inside width of the door frame? i ask as ive been told that maximum width i can have a new composite door made is 1015mm brick work opening. Is that enough to get the 900mm clearance? Also can i make the windows so that the escape windows are only on the rear? i ask that as i dont know if top openers can be used as fire escape windows and idl ike a certain look of windows on the front but wasnt sure if theyd be classed as escape windows due to only being top openers THANKS

remove the laitance? Just rang Tarmac and they said i needed curing agent and something else and then he said hed have to get someone to lay it for me?! - im trying to save money, not pay people to do what i can do. And i cant even find a local supplier for Agilia so ill just use normal readymix on site
-
im ringing tarmac tomo to see what the cost is, ill let you know. If it flows so much easier less need for extra labour!
-
Hi my BI said he used Agilia on a project and as it flows so well its a lot easier to use - anyone have experience of it? ive also no idea of cost compared to concrete mixed on site thanks
-
ive got 2 old wheelie bins on site, and have pumped some soakaway water into them -great minds think alike lol
-
Well the brickies came today and said its prob better for them and cheaper overall for me to get ready mix delivered on site with them not having to mix, im getting a lot more moneys worth out of them when all 3 are laying all day so im happy to do that which means i dont need the water as urgently now. a tub is about £40 they say, 3 a day to do approx 2000 bricks thanks

thanks, i was just looking at similar things

not yet no, i thought using a standpipe would be quite near to run a hose to, now i know different! Another thing thats screwed me up is my mortgage guy hadnt done anything for nearly 3 months! so ive had to apply for the mortgage myself which is obv weeks away which means i wont have all the money i need now because of him, which is one reason i hadnt applied for services yet due to having to pay upfront. ive got a generator for the electric but its the water thats the issue, some neghbours are nice but some are a right pain and not helpful at all this is the only thing ive screwed up on, but its been a big screw up, if i cant borrow any water im up the creek for weeks not sure if this was part of any necessary search? i can soon get a copy of something from the water board if i need to thought of that, no room on site, a really small site width wise and if i do get one i can imagine the neighbours moaning about it being parked there thanks guys
-
Hi i was going to use a standpipe but it seems my nearest location to use one is over a mile away from the property,?? surely that cant be right, does anyone know of a map to check ? if thats not going to be any use so i wondered how long people have had to wait for a temp supply? im in the East Mids. Im right in the doo doo now if i cant get any water, the builders were hoping to start within a week! another hard lesson learned today!! my inexperience is def showing thanks

no engineer specified, the notes show 2 ways of doing floor, one says screed with light mesh which i assumed was a142 reinf and the other was just use mesh over drains but im sure th BI said id got to use mesh all over the floor
-
thanks and does the reinf have to be laid on cradles or something?
-
so you DO put the visqueen over the insulation then?? i had it in my head the visqueen went under the insulation but it makes more sense to put the insulation then the visqueen
-
A builder i know has just told me he puts - stone/sand then insulation then visqueen and then reinf which is correct? ill ring the BI tomo to check thanks
-
its got to be concrete infill, to stop the ground collapsing the blockwork lol 150mm - my bad
