Hi Im just wondering what brands of loft ladders youve used that have helped you pass air tightness tests ive seen a decent loft ladder for about £120 and it says its airtight, but not by how much. Ive seen some others by wellhofer that seem to be really good on the airtightness but theyre a lot more expensive. Im just wondering if you guys had any previous experience because i realise this is just one part of the air test, a house is only as good as its weakest link obviously but if cheaper ones have passed, then i dont necessarily need the more expensive one. thanks for any help

What kind of fitting to put on brand new water connection
gwebstech replied to gwebstech's topic in General Plumbing
thanks mate, im pretty sure it says i can cap the end at the road but to put a stop tap on in the house, if i dont put some kind of tap on in the house ill never be able to connect to it without freezing the pipe or something anyway lol -
Hi all Ive got Severn Trent coming to inspect my water pipe soon, theyve told me to put a stop tap on the end inside the house, but im not sure what kind of thing to put on as i need to be able to tee off from the pipe for the feeds throughout the house and still be able to stop the flow as and when needed Can anyone point me in the right diretion as to what im looking for? thanks

Hi Peter m responsible for the chamber on my property, and the job isnt more than 1 day for a good team, i dont know theyd be able to reinstate it the same day though - id do it myself if the council didnt need to check all the bloody H and S stuff. My dad used to do them himself when he was building, apparently some of them use a worm from my property if the distance isnt too far into the road so that obv saves a lot of digging the road up right across

Building regs on new doors for new build
gwebstech replied to gwebstech's topic in General Construction Issues
thanks Peter it does say there that there needs to be some security about the letterbox but not necessarily specifying a great big thing like the door guy told me and it says i need a spyhole too... its got obscure glass, surely thats enough. Some of these regs are just horse crap -
Building regs on new doors for new build
gwebstech replied to gwebstech's topic in General Construction Issues
it was my architect that mentioned something about the height fo the letterbox as regards not being able to steal keys and the guy who makes the doors wasnt bothered if i had either letterbox but he said these are the secure type -
you mean a standpipe in the driveway?? then connect to the house from that myself?
-
Hi Ive been told that a brand new door needs to have a security letterbox but does the box have to be a certain height? the door guy says these secure letterboxes are massive and ugly so ill have to swap it once regs have been passed. Im not sure if i also need a spyhole as i understand you have to be able to see i someone is outside or not i cant find the info i need, and i need to get these ordered. i know about the good security needed and the low threshold but im stuck on these other issues. thanks

all i know is they never come in the house for a reading and its about 16 years old so im sure they get a reading from that black thing on the wall
-
i didnt know that! i thought they would use some kind of electronic device to measure the usage liek at our house now, a little black circle on the outside wall is theirs apparently thanks
-
thanks mate, so thats gets buried in the ground??

Hi all Im waiting for Severn Trent to give me a price for my water connection. A person there told me that i have to supply the pipe to the boundary and they connect to the mains in the road and then to my boundary. I didnt know i had to buy the pipe from inside my house to the boundary - is that right? if so, surely its better if i buy enough to reach right into the road and they connect my pipe to the mains- this saves having a join in the pipe. The guys that come to fit cant be that pedantic can they? as long as they can see its the right kind of pipe surely theyll just use that into the road? thanks

oh right i see. I just assumed that they would take into account the rin going into the sewer i was just looking into how to recycle some rainwater for flushing toilets too! as i thought this would cut the cost down of them fitting my supply (if i was recycling some of it) -

what about the bit where it says are you building to regulations G - and then you have to fill out this kind of form that wants to know the capacity of your bath, your sinks etc toilets wtf -
Hi all Just wondering if you guys know of any other firms that do new water connections as the application form alone for ST is like pulling teeth! And i cant imagine they are the cheapest outfit either. Ive looked online but can only see big companies offering to do it and again theyll all be wanting even more than ST thanks

Hi guys Im going to do a lot of the running the pipes around myself and only get a plumber to do what i cant. So with a new build, a combi boiler and approx 13 radiators, whats the best design or system to run them around? Ive read that feed and return pipes are best - so i assume thats running 22mm to feed to every rad, one for feed and one for return, but if im going to use microbore pipe will that work ok with this system? ive read something about manifolds and dont understand it. I understand the microbore can be ran behind the plasterboard to save losing width in the room with 15mm pipe Any advice is appreciated thanks
