  1. The Harvey is excellent. We have one installed underneath our kitchen sink. When you consider the dimensions, make sure you leave some rooms for taking the salt block compartment lid off for refilling. If you don't buy directly from Harvey, make sure you get a well qualified plumber to fix it. Apparently there are some tricks to set up the precise flow-rate for column/filter regeneration.
  2. The original cable that goes from the switch to the tank should be sufficient for me to connect the timer as well as back to the main. There is a Wilko near by, I may go and have a look tomorrow. Cheers!
  3. Ok, that looks pretty straight forward to me. Much easier than I thought, but I may need to get a longer piece of cable with that....
  4. Thank you for your reply, edited the 'boiler' out. I am so used to gas boilers for so many years.... Yes, that is what I need. Do I need an electrician to install it? I can see from the instruction that it can easily be installed right next to my main switch.
  5. Hi all, I am looking for the option of getting a timer switch for my Heatrae Sadia Megaflo tank. I have heard different opinions about how to use the Megaflo system, some suggest that it can constantly be left on but I do not want to waste too much energy as my heating is separated from the hot water supply in the flat. What I am doing right now is switching it on for 2hrs when I get home after work but that also means that we do not have enough hot water for showers right away. Any suggestion would be welcomed! Cheers!
  6. Very useful thread for a newcomer like me. I spent some time following this the discussion and found it fascinating that there is a serious lack of scientific knowledge for the general public. As I am also coming from a science background, I can only explain some of the phenomena by the placebo effect. I currently have installed a dual cylinder ion exchange softener and it does make life a lot better, especially in terms of cleaning. One thing that I want to raise if that while have the softener hooked up to the main water inlet, I have a bypass tap just for drinking water as I have familial hypertension which I need to avoid excess intake of Na+. Even though the Na+ ion left in the soften water should be very low, it is probably best for some people like me to drink less of it. But so far, I am extremely happy with the efficiency of my softener (same brand as fellow JSHarris' one).
