  1. Thanks @saveasteading it is bonkers - we would actually be increasing the fire risk if we did what the BCO is asking us to do! Thanks all for the contribution
  2. Wish we had a garage for many reasons!
  3. Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately we have a large family and very busy lives so a second fridge is a must. My "booze etc" was perhaps a bit flippant - it will be used for more than that.
  4. Sorry about the image error. Should be attached now. In terms of location, it's a second fridge for booze etc. Day to day fridge is in the kitchen - you can see it on the image now. Do you think that a surround of plasterboard or 44mm fire rated wood with an intumescent grille, and then a fire door would suffice?
  5. Hello, We are nearing the completion of renovating our house. I now need to complete a long list of DIY tasks. Most importantly is to create a cupboard that is fire rated for 30mins in the area highlighted in the image. Building control want it fire rated it as we are going to put a fridge freezer in it, although I am not sure how to reconcile that with the need for ventilation for the fridge to work effectively. So, a few questions: 1. Is anyone aware of any reasons why that cupboard shouldn't be fire rated (with a fridge freezer in it)? 2. If it has to be fire rated, any suggestions on the best way to do it whilst providing sufficient ventilation for the fridge to perform. The obvious answer would be to move it to the utility room - that would be a very expensive option as we would have to reinstall the units / surfaces etc. Thank you
  6. We used them in our old house and will use them again. Excellent quality / service. No complaints
  7. Building Control are insisting we have a fire door on our utility room to the outside. It's a bit odd, but they are being reasonable following an architect mess up. We can find plenty of external fire doors, but struggling to find any with a u value below 1.2. Thermal efficiency is a key aim for our work so this is important to us. We have a number of queries out, but any recommendations would be warmly welcome. Thanks
  8. Hello - sorry to resurrect this thread - we are planning on putting our pre-insulated pipes from our utility room in the middle of the house, under the slab, and then in a trench to the rear of the garden. What happens if we ever needed to replace the pipes? Could we put them in some sort of ducting so we could remove / replace if needed? Cheers
  9. Hello, thanks in advance to anyone that can help. We live in a 1910 semi-detached and are planning the following phases of work: 1) Rear kitchen extension and opening up rear kitchen and dining room, with a slab and underfloor insulation. Underfloor insulation front of ground floor in hall, utility and lounge. New windows (triple downstairs). Chimney removal. MVHR system installed. Solar on extension 2) Internal wall insulation on external walls (woodfibre, mostly 50mm to save space). Bathroom refurb. New radiators and ASHP. Battery. 3) New velux windows in loft, internal wall insulation in loft (if needed). The phasing is part budget, part building logic. I am hoping we can use our current boiler to serve the UFH (approximately 40m2) as well as our current radiators. And then next year, once we have the internal wall insulation, we can fit the ASHP. The boiler is a Greenstar24Ri. How do I work out if this is possible? I am assuming it's just maths, and I need to work out the KwH or the UFH, the radiators that will remain, and the hot water system...is that correct? And if so, how do I work out the KwH of each of them? And if that's not correct...please help! Thanks
  10. Thanks Nod, that's the back up plan - thanks for the reply.
  11. Looking for anyone with experience of working with them. We are doing a rear kitchen extension, internal wall insulation to rest of house (woodfibre) and ASHP and Solar.
  12. Hi - just wondering if anyone has experience of this company? I was impressed by Adam - the owner - and the views are mostly good (too good?) but keen to know if anyone has knowledge of them. Thanks
