  1. Thanks so much Paul. If you've been following from the early days on our Instagram you'll no doubt have a sense of the things we had to throw ourselves into in order to bring it under! Thanks again.
  2. Thanks very much. It's a limewash paint - shame they didn't cover it more in the episode really. From - you apply it by painting in 'clouds' and it forms a textured look. Tutorial here: - https://www.instagram.com/p/C8jGL1mKxlI/
  3. Thank you! It sort of felt like it was over before it started, watching it live yesterday. I suppose that's because we've been living and breathing it for 18 months.
  4. Thank you so much. We did mention how helpful the forums and social media have been, but didn't make the cut. I think we'll do some sort of Q&A on here or 'Ask me anything' as there's so much that get's missed during a 47 minute highlight reel of a 18th month build.
  5. Very kind words, thank you. I think we're all out of 'youthful energy' for the time being!
  6. Thanks so much. Ah the illusion and immediacy of social media...."Can we just skip to the good bit?"
  7. Thank you very much. We're glad you enjoyed the episode. As you can anticipate, there was so much that got removed from the final cut. It's an 18 month build schedule which needs to fit into 47 mins, even then that's not taking into account the last segment of the 'reveal'. Guess our comment of how we found social media and self-build forums wasn't worthy enough!
  8. 1. Ha Ha. We've had lot's of comments around the pregnancy which always makes us laugh. 2. Our hand really was forced by the interest rates of our mortgage, we didn't want to take down the last chunk of funds as we thought we could finish it ourselves without needing it. Hence the 'almost' finished state. 3. The production crew wanted to get filming wrapped to get the episode out this season, so we had a deadline to meet. 4. Yes, it needs a bit more time for things to settle in, related to point 4. Thanks for tuning in, and glad you enjoyed.
  9. Thank you! Pergola was from the same company who did our Timber Frame (Turner Timber, based in Hull). They did a superb job in getting the measurements bang on and the 'hidden plate' detail that we wanted. Exciting times! The TF flies up, they really are quite impressive to watch. All the best with your project.
  10. Ah, Thank you Bozza. That means a lot. it's hard not to well up a little when ever speaking about her in detail, even as this is being typed. We can only try to sympathise with what you have gone through.
  11. Thank you for following along. See you next week! We've had some companies approach us, social marketing is certainly more of a thing nowadays. But you are right in the sense that I think you would need a significant following to truly benefit, we're pretty small fishes comparatively. It's worth documenting it for yourselves, like a scrapbook, which was genuinely our intention. And then GD approached us through the platform - that's one example I suppose.
  12. You're absolutely right, and I think that was one of our biggest reservations of going on the show. Ultimately, we thought it would be a nice documentary of our build journey, and perhaps something to look back on...if it went well! We've not seen it either, so have no idea and will be watching it unfold too. +1 - Clarksons farm is a great watch. Having moved to the countryside for this build, we've found ourselves with an increased understanding (and appreciation) of all the farming that happens around us. I think a great example of what TV should be. Entertaining, and educational. Thank you, see you next week.
  13. Obviously, budget is discussed at the beginning. You have to provide costs for keys stage of the entire process for each element (Groundworks, TF, Glazing etc). The onus is on contributors on how open they want to be, and it's down to honesty at the end. I can tell you we had nothing to hide, and if you watch our story next week, that might make a little more sense. But at the end of the day, it's up to you whether you want to believe it or not. Personally, we included everything. Right down to architect fees. But can't speak on behalf of other contributors or episodes. I don't know if it's checked or verified, but I think it would be fairly easy for the production team to get a sensible idea of what the total spend should be, based on the accumulation of all costs at key stages.
  14. For sure. We'll be sharing our learnings during the project on here. Most likely in the form of a post with a Q&A. Things like what worked well for us, what didn't, and things that we would do differently. We've generally found the community on here, Facebook and Instagram to be extremely helpful (perhaps unusual for social media), and we've always shared our learnings along this journey with our followers, many of whom are going through the process themselves. We've just got to keep things mostly under wraps for now, until the episode is aired on TV. It's all part of not spoiling the story so that interested viewers can watch it unfold. Once it's fully out in the public domain, I promise we'll be able to go into more details and share. However, depending on how it goes next week, you may not want our advice! 😅
  15. Yes we know costs, but you also know I'm going to say that I can't spoil anything until the episode get's aired next week! No cash deals, and apart from good negotiating, I don't think we did anything out of the ordinary. Again, can't say too much just yet, at risk of spoiling the show. . BH was one of the many forums we used (and contributed to). Facebook of all places, was extremely helpful. No donation I'm afraid. Pockets are empty from the build.
  16. A bit of both, maybe. You'll have to wait till next week to find out...
  17. Who said it took a year? You'll have to tune in next week to see... (p.s. I'm sure you're not doing anything "wrong". Things often just take longer than anticipated.)
