As above, I have 2 x 1.2m oak mantel's (200 depth x 100mm height) that I want to mount above 2 gas fires both fitted into chimney breasts that are each about 1.3 and 1.4m wide.

The face of the chimneys appear to be double brick (i.e. 2 x brick widths) thickness to the flue.

I have planned to fit them using something like Rawlplug R-KEM II Styrene-Free Polyester Resin with probably 5 or maybe even 7 x 27cm lengths of M16 threaded bar, 15cm glued into the oak and 12cm glued into the chimney breast, and also with the chimney face of the oak also lined with some resin, then braced as it sets hard.

I'm concerned that the weight of the oak cannot be taken by the chimney breast either immediately or over time.

Am I right to be concerned or should I go ahead?

Do you experts have any other tips with regards to fitting the mantels?

A chimney breast will have zero issues holding 25kg, an almost negligible amount given the load capacity of a double brick chimney breast.

your fixing strategy is over the top too, a fixing either end would work fine, and I’d probably up that to three (one in the middle) to stop the timber sagging. Don’t bother glueing the timber to the wall, as you will only be glueing it to paint/paper.

the majority of these pre-made timber mantles actually hang on the wall much like a picture frame
