WiltshireLink Posted Friday at 11:43 Posted Friday at 11:43 Hi All, Confused here, if on my driveway, the pipe is less than 600mm deep, Im thinking I need to protect? BC being less than helpful... So shingle, then do I need a compression board all along where its shallow? I have some A252 mesh left over so could use that? Then finally 100mm concrete cap? Again, is this all along the trench? Look forward to thoughts!
kandgmitchell Posted Friday at 16:08 Posted Friday at 16:08 Have a look at paragraphs 2.41 to 2.45 of the Approved Document to Part H (it'll be online). Since you are under the minimum depth of 0.9m in a "light road" then para 2.44 says: 2.44 Where pipes have less than the minimum recommended cover in Table 8, 9 or 10, the pipes should, where necessary, be protected from damage by a reinforced concrete cover slab with a flexible filler and at least 75mm of granular material between the top of the pipe and the underside of the flexible filler below the slabs (see Diagram 11 and paragraphs 2.28, 2.42 and 2.43). However, just be aware of where vehicle wheels will run on a driveway and if no loading is going to be put on the drain then less protection will be needed. 1
Oz07 Posted Friday at 17:52 Posted Friday at 17:52 Ive encased in concrete before but not sure its nessecary. See so many sites without any protection and nothing ever happens. I knew lorries would be going over so played it safe. See how many reduce dig for new driveways exposes drains that work just fine without protection. I think its probably more important to have a tight trench with minimum pea gravel needed to comply if under a driveway. 1
