FrankHouse Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I have enquired about getting my three phase connection upgraded to a smart meter and have had an unusual response from EON and I wondered if anyone else has had the same issue? At present we have a three phase supply which is connected into three individual meters. The connection was moved by the DNO when we started the house upgrade but the meters were here when we bought the property which is a Victorian farmhouse and an old farm - hence the 3 phase supply. Asking E-On to do the upgrade they have said they to do the upgrade to a smart meter they want to charge us £140 each to remove two of the existing meters, followed by a charge of about £180 to upgrade our single phase meter to a three phase meter. To me this seems like charging me to take something away and then charging me to add it back! Obviously the person I'm speaking to on the phone doesn't understand the technical aspects and everything is relayed to some other hidden third party so I am going to have to put this into an email to try and get it to that person. I wondered if anyone else has had this issue before and if they resolved it? The cheaper option that was suggested was to have three separate smart meters installed - I suppose I could go for this but it feels overcomplex. I'll do it rather than pay hundreds of pounds but I'd rather have it right to start with.
Alan Ambrose Posted September 26 Posted September 26 You should get a lot more sense from Octopus. From memory, calls work better than emails. Try not to deal with their Indian call centre which I found very unhelpful. Mind you, 2 x £140 plus 1 x £180 is very cheap on any DNO scale.
