Mubbashshir Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago If you look at the roof lip, the bare wood is exposed — does this need capping to protect it from the weather? I’ve attached some closer pictures: there’s a wooden joist, and below it you can see the felt extending out into the roof gutter. It seems like something may need to be done. Could you please advise?
Big Jimbo Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Yes, your builders have made a boo boo. Those wood pieces were needed to keep the bottom row of roof tiles tilted up to the correct level because there is no batten and tile for that last tile to sit on. If they had put on a deeper facia board, those bits of wood would not have been needed. Also the roofing felt should have come over the top. the way it is currently, if the roof leaks, and water gets below the tiles, it will run down the felt, and wont be able to get out because of the wood battens stopping it. Dont know where you live, but any local rats will be nesting in that roof ,with those gaps under the tiles. Is the roof insulated ?
