NotJustin Posted Sunday at 20:05 Posted Sunday at 20:05 (edited) Hi all I have a cherry picker and it's currently got a 3rd party float charger and two wet 6v batteries. Problems is the charger tends to boil the batteries. I'm thinking it's a bit mad anyway as I don't need a portable cherry picker as it is used exclusively around the perimeter of the building and is always within reach of the mains. The batteries are a couple of years old but don't seem very happy. Therefore I was thinking of either a transformer or maybe a AGM leisure battery as I realise a transformer would need to be meaty to supply the grunt the motor needs. Wondered if anyone else had had this issue? Cheers! Edited Sunday at 20:05 by NotJustin
Alan Ambrose Posted Monday at 05:51 Posted Monday at 05:51 May be easiest to fix the charging / battery problem, no? Suspect either you have the wrong batteries or the wrong charger - if they don’t play well together. A third, less likely, possibility is some kind of wiring fault. Double check the manufacturer’s specs for compatible batteries and chargers? Try charging the batteries off the equipment? See if you can verify whether either batteries or charger are good? My guess would be the charger as it’s ‘third party’ - borrow the correct charger to see whether that’s the case? When it works though, is the cherry picker a helpful bit of kit to have around?
