I need to repair the pier in the pic, does anyone know what these red blocks are called and if they are still available anywhere?

No idea whatsoever. Sorry. 
 

Maybe patch in with regular bricks, and then do a thin coat render over it to make it look a little easier on the eyes?

 

Not the prettiest of walls, do you want to invest time and money to make it look this way?
