Hello all,

 

I've just completed a long-term project of mine to use a waste water heat recovery system (WWHRS) to boost the flow rate of an electric shower. And it's worked an absolute treat. In initial testing, I'm getting a shower flow rate of 15 lpm, which is around triple what a 10.8 kW normal electric shower would give.

 

Here's my final plumbing:

I used a Stiebel Eltron 10 dce-s 10/12 plus water heater, which is capable of 12-14 kW power (changeable by jumper). The WWHRS is a Recoup pipe hex rd active.

 

The waste water from the shower is pumped to the top of the WWHRS, where it transfers some of it's heat energy to the incoming cold water, prior to it going to the water heater. In my initial tests, I'm getting a heat recovery efficiency of around 55%. Total energy in the water flow 31.4 kW, 14 kW coming from the water heater and 17.4 kW coming from the WWHRS. This is better than I expected.
