Hello Helpful People,

We have two large lift and slide doors in our house which have been in place for almost 10 years.

They are Katzbeck and we have been pleased with the build quality generally.

However one unit failed recently. The failure was peculiar in that the handle stopped engaging with the mechanism and so rotated without lifting the door.

Taking the handle off, the mechanism inside looked damaged and some rough measurements showed that this was probably caused by the fact the spindle attached to the handle didn't go all the way into the mechanism. This seem to cause the closer part of the mechanism to sheer off and then the slightly too short spindle on the handle to fail to engage to lift the door.

I bought a piece of 10mm bar to use as a temporary spindle and with this going all the way into the mechanism, this lifted the door so I could open it.

I then took off the long aluminum strip and mechanism that runs down the door edge and allows the handle to lift the door onto the trolleys/rollers.

As you can see from the photo the "gear" I think its called is indeed damaged, a big bit of sheared off metal and lots of damaged metal was in the gear mechanism.

So ideally I'd like to replace this bit. The question I have is whether that is achievable and what the likelihood of being able to buy the relevant unit would be. I've googled around a bit but they dont seem like the sort of thing people regularly replace.

Would be delighted in thoughts, ideas or recommendations.

@craig if you are still around it sounds like the sort of space you have offered wisdom and pragmatism in the past so any thoughts would be very gratefully appreciated.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Looking further it seems that this is a Maco HS Component. So I guess the question now becomes - does anybody know how to replace the gear onto the broader rail component and where a retail buyer might get one of these?

Hi Jeremy,

You can call Maco UK with the relevant part number and they can source it for you or alternatively, contact one of the agents for them (Katzbeck) in the UK who would be able to help (you were obviously able to remove and identify, I'm assuming you'd be OK with exchanging). It would be the cheaper option sourcing yourself (if in stock in the UK).
