Hello, this is slightly long winded, but to give it some context.

We have got planning to demolish some farm buildings and build 2 houses on the site.

One plot we intend to sell, one to keep and build in a couple of years time.

The farm has 3 phase, and about 10 years ago we had a field mount 100KW solar array installed.

99% of the electricity was exported when the farm was being used, from now on it will be 100% as all the farm buildings will be demolished with the exception of the stable with the Consumer untit etc in it.

The DNO (Western Power at the time) upgraded the electrics from the High Voltage line to the farm when we had the solar installed.

Currently we pay EDF about £600 a year standing charge and base cost for import for usage as a commercial supply, which we will have no use for.

The Export is through Good Energy.

1. Who would you think is  best to approach for a new connection in this instance - National Grid (who took over Western Power), or EDF, or anyone else?

Ideally we want to stop the business connection and just have a residential one going forward.

2. Is it possible to have the cabling dug in before the house is built? Ideally we would like to get a supply to the plot that will be for sale to make it easier for the purchaser.

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.

Are you intending to stand the first saleable property away from the existing connection for the farm and solar array? Is the plan / assumption to only be tethering the house you build for yourselves to that?

I'd assume that connection has plenty of headroom for the second dwelling too. The DNO will need to be approached for this, as we can only procrastinate tbh, but I'd have thought there would be no issue with them digging down and splicing the new feed cable from the HV transformer to create the additional connection and supply cable for the immediate needs.

This is, afaik, just a metering issue.

Thanks for the reply Nick.

We would be quite happy for a new supply to go from around the solar / 3 phase in the stable, rather than digging in a new cable back to the transformer.

The saleable property is about 50m from the stable with the solar connection and farm 3 phase.

The house for us will be 10m from the stable.

The HV transformer is approx 100m from the stable on the side of the road across our field. The cable between the stable and the transformer was put in at the time of the solar installation.

regards, Peter
