km94 Posted Wednesday at 15:54 Share Posted Wednesday at 15:54 (edited) Hi all, I'm currently looking at getting a heat pump installed. I've had a quote from British Gas for a heat pump, and wondering if anyone had any experience with the quality of their install and how close they've gotten to their estimated SCOPs? They're quote is £9k (after grant) including changing all radiators. I've also had a quote from a reputable heat geek (although not through HG directly). Their quote is £2k more (£11k) for the same heat pump and but only changing 8 radiators. Its a significant price difference, and BG also offer 2 years 0% finance which is an added bonus, along with the first year being charged 14p per kwh for all heat pump usage, assuming I move to them. Additionally, the BG quote is for a Gledhill cylinder whereas the HG quote is for a Vaillant cylinder (both 250l). Anyone know which is better? I'm sure I can get BG to get me the Vaillant cylinder. Thanks in advance! Edited Wednesday at 15:57 by km94 Added detail

sharpener Posted Wednesday at 17:30 Share Posted Wednesday at 17:30 BG will probably subcontract the job so it's anyones guess who will do it at what standard. Press them to tell you. Gledhill are reportedly not testing their cyls 100% and leaks and rattling internals have been mentioned somewhere. What size? FWIW I got a Vaillant 12kW HP, 270 l thermal store and 8 new rads for well under your BG quote.

Try asking the HG if they can match the BG one or come near it.

I'm north west London, and got a few other quotes and all others were around the same ballpark number, so not sure I can get it any cheaper
sharpener Posted Wednesday at 18:19 Share Posted Wednesday at 18:19 (edited) IME they all pad the quotes with an unquantifiable amount for "MCS compliance costs" or some such which means some scope to haggle. Tell them you would like to give them the work, what can they do for you? "Nothing for the dumb" as my mother used to say. Various horror stories about BG on Vaillant forum, I would steer clear of them. Edited Wednesday at 18:24 by sharpener

Yeah I was planning on doing that once I've decided which installer to go for, and then try and negotiate it down
Tony L Posted Wednesday at 19:28 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:28 Don't go with British Gas, whatever you do. They're a dreadful organisation, full of nasty people.
