Sole plate. what constitutes a gap?

Recommended Posts

I think i know the answer to this question but i dont want to chase ever decreasing gains if the risk is miniscule.

So, a gap where you can see daylight is presumably in need of insulating, see picture.  What about a gap of 2mm.

Our kicker blocks have the Grey DPC and then sole plate on that, nothing unusual there. So there is potential for a gap both under and on top of the DPC.

If it is airtightness you are concerned with, some mastic or tape would help.  I don't see the point in insulation there as it is too small a gap.  When I have had bigger gaps under sole plates they are normally chocked up, then we will fill with mortar from a pointing gun.
