marno17 Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Hi everyone, I'm at the point of getting all planning fully approved with conditions discharged and ready to go. I am in Salford Manchester area and have permission to build a small detached dwelling on a large corner plot. A couple of questions to get going :- I Have contacted electricity northwest and they have quoted me £2300 to connect me from middle of road to my house once it is built. Can I use an independent contractor in the hope of getting a better price and am I ok going electric only without gas or is it mandatory to have both? Also I am having a lot of trouble getting a gigabit offer for my new internet connection in order to satisfy my bco application. I'm using approved inspectors based in Manchester as my previous inspector (Pwc) have gone bump! I guess what I'm asking is what is the cheapest way of getting a gigabit connection via an overhead telegraph pole which my existing house uses and who with? I've had no response from open reach and the logging on to their system is proving difficult as I'm getting errors with Microsoft account. Thanks in advance
TommoUK Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 You don't have to have gas. It depends if you want it for heating/cooking. An air source heat pump and electric hob will save you the extra cost of installing gas. Will bco accept 'starlink' as an Internet solution. No cable connection required.
jack Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 @marno17, we try to keep the Introduce Yourself section to introductions only. I've moved this to the building regulations section, but you might do better starting separate questions in whatever you think is the best sub-forum for each. Thanks.
