Paint, Black Jack or nothing below DPC?

Recommended Posts

I’m after some advice please. We’re just going up from the ground beam and have one course below the first damp barrier

which the beam&block sits on. The gap alongside of the house will get backfilled with our clay soil. The ground worker is suggesting crushed stone up to this first block course and that we should paint it first with Black Jack. There’s a void inside so in theory the block can breathe under the house and the BJack will stop the outside edge getting as wet. Is this a good idea?

I’m not sure if I posted it in the wrong BH category, or maybe no one knows the answer? I did do a BH search but there wasn’t a consensus on options:

do nothing

paint above damp

bitumen above damp

render above damp

brick slip above damp

We now also have stainless steel anchor straps in place, so we could hammerite them or just leave block and straps exposed. If anyone has experienced this situation please do share what you did.

The void should be ventilated with proper air vents anyway...

It shouldn't matter. Leave it alone.

The air vents are in now. We’ll leave it alone, thanks for the advice, appreciate it.
