Adhesive for sticking 1kg decorative stone cladding tiles to an external brick wall

They have been stuck on for at least 30 years but now a lot are falling off. They seem to have used some kind of glue not mortar and then done some pointing using mortar. I used a tube of Evostik external adhesive (forgot the name - binned) to test and that seems to have worked but that was about £10 for a few tiles. 

The larger tiles are about 1kg so quite heavy.

I need maybe 1kg of something. But what? I see stuff for £40 or more. Hoping there is something cheaper.

Mapei tile adhesive? Got some left over. Actually no. I see - this one for example: Mapei Keraquick Wall & Floor Rapid-Set Flexible Tile Adhesive
