Micro setup DIY with second hand parts

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I'm looking to install small pv setup (under 1kw) on my wooden pergola. All parts will be second hand. It's just to cover my Base load.

I'm comfortable with electric but new to solar.

1. I need to inform my DNO about my installation, what will they require from me?

2. I don't want any export payments, I have a fairly new smart meter, will it not count my production as usage and charge me?

3. G98, what needed to get it?

4. As it will be system with battery I believe I need hybrid inverter? Can these be programmed when to charge/discharge battery.

5. What's elso do I need( panels, hybrid inverter, batteries)

Thanks in advance

1. I need to inform my DNO about my installation, what will they require from me? G98 is after the install

2. I don't want any export payments, I have a fairly new smart meter, will it not count my production as usage and charge me? No

3. G98, what needed to get it? Fill in the forms, certified by a suitably qualified electrician and a drawing of the install.  Your inverter needs to be G98 certified

4. As it will be system with battery I believe I need hybrid inverter? Can these be programmed when to charge/discharge battery. Depends on model I would assume

5. What's elso do I need( panels, hybrid inverter, batteries) - isolations switch AC as a minimum (I also include DC on both my arrays), cable, mounting system, DC connectors

Hi.

Thanks.

Regarding part 3 g98 - does it have to be done by certified electrician or just " competent person"

I would say qualified - what does competent mean with respect electrics and signing things off?

Just another question, is setup with battery allowed under g98?

Yep, with the right setup. If your battery is DC connected and your inverter carries a G98 cert then good to go.
