JamieRae
Hello all….we’ve removed an old shed from our garden and now we’re left with an existing concrete base of (7mx3m) but surrounding it is a concrete path/perimeter that is lower than the base. We want to eventually turn it into a nice garden lounge area but to start with we want to bring up the surrounding parts up the same height as the existing shed base so it’s all the same height as we’re potentially going to pave it. Any advice/ideas on the best way to do it would be much appreciated. Was thinking of building it up with type 1 crushed concrete….but wasn’t sure if that’s suitable to put on top of an existing concrete base. Thanks. Temp
How much lower and what do you plan to put on top? For example it's not a good idea to tile over the joint between separate areas of concrete because any differential movement can cause cracking. One option might be to drill into the side of the higher slab, insert rebar and pour concrete to bring the lower up to the higher.
JamieRae
Thanks. The lower perimeter is approx 50mm lower than the existing base. Once it’s all level, we want to install a pergola and either tile over the whole area with Indian sandstone or lay paving slabs. The pergola will be fixed to where the existing base is (not the newly raised perimeter).
