Self Build Mortgage - how much should I pay for a Solicitor? any recommendations ?

Any recommendations for a conveyancing solicitor for self-build mortgage? We already own a property on the land which has a small residential mortgage.

 

I thought I had found one for a bargain price of £325, but just received the small print and they charge another £1200+vat for a self-build mortgage- I have no idea if this is about the right price or if I need to find someone else?!

I went with Harpenden via Mayflower for my self build mortgage.  Total cost of all solicitors, searches, land registry, payment fees.  was £2000 inc vat. 
 

Solicitor acted for me and Harpenden. If I’d gone with my solicitor is would have cost me an extra 2k

Hi- I've not selected one yet actually as still waiting for mortgage offer.. taking ages.

I did get some quotes though around 1200-1400. One from Russell and Russell and a few from conveyancing index comparison site. I confirmed it was for self build. I have no idea how good any of them are but the prices seem reasonable.

If anyone is looking for conveyancing for their self build I would recommend Russell & Russell. Excellent communication and very quick to respond. Also the price was extremely competitive. Just completed today and really happy with the service I received.
