Graham1967 Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I have a sloped garden and was considering levelling it out. I have recently scarifier, aerated and overseeded the turf in preparation for next year. Would it be feasible to get a turf cutter and remove the existing turf, then bring in top soil to level out, then relay the old turf? I was planning to do this in late March.
Conor Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Probably less work just to hire a 5hp rotavator, mulch up the existing turf (maybe spray with weedkiller first of you have issues) spread out the new soil and till again, then seed fresh.
Graham1967 Posted October 7, 2023 Author Posted October 7, 2023 Thanks. Seems like that might be a decent idea. It will save me bringing in less soil. I might lay turf instead of seeding. Anything to watch out when laying turf over the rotavated old turf/soil?
Conor Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Bed preparation is key. Weeds growing up through the new turf will be your biggest issue. Other than that, it's straightforward, just avoid hot, dry weather (so lay in spring or have sprinklers on the ready, same as sowing from seed really.)
