HughF
Footings are going in for a 3m2 porch (pd size) and I’m now wondering how to go about building it. We’re coming up to dpc in blockwork, but above dpc I’m considering going for timber frame with render board on the outside. Does this seem like a terrible idea? The porch faces north and will be glazed on three sides from the middle up, with a double pitched roof. We will probably add some oak slips for an oak-framed look (wife’s orders)…. Redbeard
I did this because I like building timber frames, but it tends to end up looking like any other structure, and not very 'woody'!

I like stick builds too, I’m no good with a trowel. This is more to give us something that’s reasonably warm, but doesn’t end up with massively thick walls, but isn’t also single skin blockwork. The front door to the house will stay as it is, this is just an addition… Edited June 29, 2023 by HughF
