irishhouse Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 (edited) New build in 2022. Consumer unit is in a single storey utility room(off kitchen) that has a pitched roof. This is connected to the 2storey house. From the consumer unit the wires run up in trunking into the ceiling of the utility. A section of the ceiling board was just cut out and obviously a noticeable breeze in coming down(the hole in ceiling board)from the venting which is in the soffit vents. 1)Is this an acceptable way to bring wires by just cutting a rectangular hole and not attempting some form of airtightness/insulation to minimise the breeze coming down the hole in ceiling board? 2)can rockwool type insulation be placed to fill the hole and reduce the cold/breeze coming in? 3)Can rockwool be put throughout the trunking ? 3)any other comments/observations worth noting? See attached pictures I wouldn't get too upset, as most trades know little or nothing about airtightness, in fairness. To solve this, all you need is a squirt of Illbruck 330 foam and it's job done 10 minute fix. 1
