Thought I'd join the forum although my building days are winding down. Ex engineer and IT consultant by trade, really enjoyed various projects for self and others, biggest was a bungalow porch/office extension and some fireplaces. Currently building a garage extension.

Still digging out and filled the hole with hardcore from the other projects like the fireplace. Then the clock changed, dark nights and bad weather set in. Priorities change (eg sis-in-law's building work on her new house), only made a start in the garage base 10 years ago. Missus getting on my case now :-)

Fast turnaround on my log burner work last Nov (before/after pics above), but it sat unboxed for 9 months. Have a boat and was working on that. Great fun, sooner be working outside in the summer. Happy to do all trades except brick laying. I'd be too slow like I am plastering. Love plumbing, fast to high standard but old school, no push fits (or even solder ring fittings). I take stacks of pics on each job to the points of being obsessive, maybe should compile an image library sometime.

Edit: Never did anything until later in life, marriage and we purchased a doer-upper. After 22 years touched every part of the house and finally transformed it. Only the man cave outside left to do. Maybe I've one renovation left in me, rental as a retirement income.
