McLovin
Hi, would be grateful for any advice as a person with very little roofing knowledge! Had roof cleaned a few weeks back and was advised by the cleaning company that the roof hip/cap needs replacing, had blown off the roof during storms earlier this year - see attached pic. Was advised to get done asap to prevent water ingress / damage Had local roofer recommended who came out and repaired, but he hasn’t replaced the cap, he has “sealed it with silicone and nailed down” - he said the cap is only cosmetic and doesn’t need replacing this doesn’t seem right to me, so now thinking of getting another firm to do a proper replacement - from what I have researched he has basically done a temporary repair and it will need sorting in the next few months, is this right? thanks for any replies Edited December 24, 2022 by McLovin
MikeSharp01
Looks like a job for some nifty lead work and / or some fine cutting of the ridge tiles to make a 3 way junction.
twice round the block
Temporary repair as he probably couldn't find matching ridge tiles or if he could he probably didn't want a fiddly job doing the cuts. Maybe try and find the ridge tiles yourself then the next contractor won't have an excuse.

Good idea thanks Would I be ok leaving it to the summer as hard to get anyone to come out at the minute, and would give me time to find someone good next time
