JayBo1979
Hi guys we live in a corner plot and the garden at the side and front of the house is on a slope so it’s approx 60-80cm lower at street level than the main garden. we want to level out and build up the garden and build a 60-80cm retaining wall. we then want to put a fence on top for privacy my understanding is that without PP the fence can be upto 1m (as it’s by a public highway) but is this measured from street level or the level of the ground in the inside of the fence (which we have built up). This obviously makes a massive difference as if it’s measured from street level and the retaining wall is 80cm then we’d only be able to have a 20cm fence! thanks J
DevilDamo
The height is measured from the ground adjacent to the proposals so in your case, you could probably take the higher level. However, retaining walls would usually require Planning as it’s considered an engineering operation. That would therefore override the 1m PD allowance.
