Crumpetman
Hi My builders have installed 3 lots of upstands for my flat skylights in 2x2 timber and all 3 flat roof sections have been fiberglassed. Someone has just told me these should have been made in 4 x 4 timber to allow for 100mm insulation between and then another 40mm insulation on top to stop any cold bridging. Does anyone know what thickness aerogel I would need in order to achieve using 150mm PIR ?. Thanks Andy
Temp
Aerogel is good stuff but very expensive and fragile. Aerogel blanket used for insulation isn't nearly as good as raw Aerogel. The Thermal Conductivity of PIR is 0.022 W/mk. Google suggests the Thermal conductivity aerogel blanket varies from 0.024 W/mK down to 0.018 or 0.014 W/mk. So some (0.024W/mk) appears to be worse than PIR. The best (0.014W/mk) would need... 150*14/22 = 95mm Edited October 20, 2022 by Temp
Temp
Spacetherm Aerogel is 0.015W/mk. Edited October 20, 2022 by Temp
