Sweaty walls

Hello everyone,

I have an old house and have just turned on the heating for the first time this year.

 

There are two walls in the bedroom that are damp from the waist down. It’s definitely not a pipe as there is a door between the two walls so I very much doubt it is a leak.

 

Should I rip down the wall and have a look inside or is there some way to dry it out and stop it sweating apart from a dehumidifier.

 

any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated!
