The front door garden path that time forgot, how wide?

Our planning permission features a short 5m front door garden path that leads onto a village lane. In practice the principal (mobility-spec) door will be on the other side of the house and the official front door seldom used.

 

Having pegged out a one meter wide path to the front door it looks OTT.

 

How narrow can a plausible path to a front door be? I am thinking 600mm wide with narrow planted borders each side, Swmbo plans lavender lined edges to the path. There will be a 1.2m wide step in front of the door.
