Chris4321
Hi, hopefully someone can offer some advice on a recess for a log burner. I would like to get my fireplace ready for a log burner install in the future, just can’t afford one at the current time!!! It’s quite a narrow, shallow opening 575 x 340 approx. l was thinking about use a cement board to line the recess but leave the back as brick. What sort of gap needs to be maintained between the concrete board and edge of stove? I’ll be left with 540 width. Will I get a stove narrow enough to fit with a gap or can it sit fairly close? Can the rear bricks just be repointed with a standard mortar mix or does it need to be something heatproof? thanks in advance chris
CC45
Hi & welcome. You need to select a stove and then read the its documents - these will stipulate the gap between combustable and non combustable materials. Brick and normal mortar mix is fine, likewise concrete.
