ASHP newbie
I've been slowly renovating a part-17th century cottage trying to bring it into the 21st century while retaining/repairing as many old features as possible. Slow work, even if I do get in a builder when necessary. Currently looking at installing a Air Source Heat Pump to get rid of expensive LPG but need help to boost my confidence to go ahead with such a large expenditure. While looking up info on ASHP came across this forum and here I am :-) D
Cpd
Welcome. There is a wealth of information about ashp on the forum, have a search as it should all be written down somewhere, also have a look through some of the blogs. Renovations are hard work.... and you really need to get the insulation right to justify ashp if using it for heating. I am renovating although very slowly and will be installing an ashp when the time comes as well as MvHr But that’s another story. Explain what insulation you have in walls, ceiling and floor to give people an idea of where you are at, what’s your windows like, and how air tight will the build be. We love photos. Info on this site about sizing ashp can also be found.
ASHP newbie
Wish I'd found this forum sooner. Have searched the ASHP sub-forum quite extensively but would like to contact someone who was a very low energy user pre-ASHP to check that my electricity won't go up so much that any savings on LPG are wiped out. The house is reasonably insulated for its age - roof insulated, all north-facing walls insulated internally, other walls maybe half insulated where appropriate. EPC D with solar PV, since it was done have added oak frame extension where double glazing manages to lose more heat than I am happy with but it is to 2015 regs. All windows and doors double glazed. About half of solid floor area also insulated. Most insulation is 4" of Kingspan as far as I remember. I've had the ASHP sizing done for 11.4kW system with heat loss factor 62 w/sq.m. floor area 148m2 (should be 167m2 - ignores hallway etc) heating energy req't 16,787kWh and hot water req't 2,606kWh. Tried doing the sums but got bogged down so thought I'd try see if some knows because they been there/done that. Also been thinking of noise levels (sound power 66dBA) as the unit will be below a first floor bedroom window (spare room). And what would have happened during The Beast from the East as the unit will face East.
