Myrtle
Hi Everyone, Having lived lived in rented accomodation on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula for the past 5 years, we (My wife and I) have decided to take our first foray into the realm of selfbuilding. Reason for this is despite looking for houses there is nothing that strikes our fancy. We have a plot in mind with PIP, just under an acre, are in the process of securing a mortgage and after that will be heading to an architect/building firm armed with reams of ideas and sketches. Ideally looking for a SIPs build, more than likely turnkey, as shift work tends to make for slow progress when it comes to building judging from previous diy projects. I will no doubt be posting on various parts of forum as time progresses. Thanks in advance M
Thedreamer
Hello, welcome to Buildhub from Skye. If I was starting I would have a good look at ground conditions avoiding sites with bedrock/peat and look at potential utilities costs at the earliest possible stage. Two architectural firms on the island used frequently are Rural Design and Dualchas.
