Only for the locals, in the Inverness area. Visiting the site next week, ahead of completion. Want to run around a few suppliers of standard materials. Any recommendations for materials supplies in the area? I see JD pipes are there which should be best for what they do. There are lots of local sawmills, any recommendations, that sell direct and miss out the merchants? The usual names are there as builders merchants, but I would hope the local ones excel on price and service? In the perfect world there will be one in Nairn (or Forres) or Inverness that is consistently good value without asking every time. It annoys me immensely when I have to show them the Wickes price before the price drops to what they should have quoted right away. Also need a few acrow props, new or used.

Good morning, I am formulating plans for the renovation of a small steading near Inverness. It has been abandoned for many decades. The walls are made of typical irregular stone blocks and chunks. Really charming. Even though it just has a weathered corrugated roof there is little damp. Our ancestors knew how to build! I want to keep the walls exposed internally. It is just one storey. I plan to repoint using lime mortar, other than that my wish is to keep the walls visible. I have not submitted a planning application yet. I know these days planners are concerned with insulation. I am fully prepared to over-insulate the roof et cetera to mitigate the bare walls. I just wondered if any members had approached Scottish planners with a similar design requirement. If so I would hugely appreciate knowing any tips and hints. Thank you.
