Can anyone recommend a supplier/carpenter that you have used before to produce/supply a solid oak front pivot door. I have obtained a quote from one company that seems to pop up everywhere on the internet but is about 10k for a door fitting a structural opening of 1200 by 2100. ?

Has anyone retro fitted a smart lock on an aluminium front door? We're looking at Origin doors and are interested in fitting a smart lock afterwards, but want to be sure this will be possible. Neither the manufacturer nor the supplier/installer seems very clued up on this, the only answer we've really got is that the door could be supplied with no lock. This sounds fine, but we'd need to know we could get a smart lock to fit the door before we invest in an expensive door! My next step is to follow up with smart lock suppliers but it would be great to hear of any first hand experience from people on here. Many thanks, Liz -
I just heard from Idealcombi that it is possible to order my front door without any handle or lock. Idealcombi's standard look is an oval one common in Denmark but harder to get in the UK and so getting keys might be a problem. Furthermore, if I ever wanted to replace the lock with, for example, a smart lock then it might be impossible. Could anyone foresee any problems adding my own handle and lock to such a flush-panel door? What are the common locks used in the UK? Would fitting a Euro cylinder barrel lock be a sensible idea?

A new idea. In the the latest House-Planning-Help podcast (HPH280), John Bootland (the boss of the Passive House Trust) mentions putting a little radiator near the front door to give a feeling or warmth as you enter. Interesting idea; never heard it mentioned before.
