  1. Thanks everyone for your responses. I'll have a look at the garage roof tomorrow and see if there are any weep vents where the garage meets the bungalow
  2. Thanks JohnMo I did think about that and might look into the additional cost, it may be worth it as there is no clear path from the furthest two rooms, other than going along the floor with the UFH.
  3. Hi markc. Thanks for the response. We are breaking through into an attached garage that was built after the house so the wall we are breaking through is a cavity wall. The garage roof is lower than the house roof so there is a short section of wall that is still exposed to the elements. Does that make any difference? Thanks James
  4. Hi, I'm planning on extending a room out through an external wall. I'll be putting in a lintel to create the opening. If the lintel was over an external door or window, i assume you would put weep vents in. But the wall over the new opening will now become and internal wall and will be boarded and plastered. I'm not sure how this works. Thanks James
  5. Hi all. I'm about to retrofit UFH on to a concrete floor (insulation to go on top) Rather than chase out good walls that don't need plastering to run wires from the thermostats to the UFH control unit, can i just run them alongside the UFH pipes within the insulation under the UFH polystyrene mats? Thanks in advance
  6. Hi, I'm opening up a door way in an external gable wall and replacing the existing lintel with a longer one. The wall is non-load bearing, the first floor joists and the roof trusses run parrallell to the wall and it's a bungalow. Do i need to do anything other than support the wall with Acrows and strong boy's from both sides? I can't support the wall on the floor joists obviously. Thanks in advance
  7. Also, with a 20mm expansion gap, how do I go about filling the gap on the finished floor? I'll be using a flexible flooring of some description but 20mm is too wide to be covered by normal skirting. Thanks.
  8. Thanks nod. I was thinking of taking the FF up as the insulation and chipboard is damp due to a leak. Fixing a soleplate to the concrete and building the stud wall up from there, then re-laying the floor on either side of the new wall. I understand the concrete has a DPM on top so can I screw into this or is there another way of fixing the sole plate?
  9. Hi, does anyone have any experience of constructing a stud wall on top of a floating floor? Thanks James
  10. Hi, I've recently moved into a property with floating floors. From what I can gather they are concrete with insulation overlayed, then chipboard on top. We are splitting the bathroom in two to create an ensuite. I've seen that build a stud wall on to a floating floor can be problematic. Has anyone built a short brick or block wall directly onto the concrete as a base for a wooden stud wall? Thanks in advance. James
