  1. sorry lizzie just outside wincanton still also trying to sort out builders mess.
  2. Tearing hair out ! what is it with tilers had two rubbish jobs done, now we come to our en-suite. 2nd tiler cried off due to snow ? we did not have much he must have been coming from outer Mongolia. The first one was not interested gave the second one our name and number did not have courtesy to tell use first. Hence when he phoned no clue as to who he was. 3rd tiler appeared and a week later no clue as to cost etc has not got back to us mind you he missed a full wet room of faulty tiles that we saw immediately from another wally. 4th tiler was recommended by trusted administrator on tiler forum work looks superb but has not deigned to answer our message . I am beginning to think that along with everyone when you become an oap its a case of ignore them and they will just go away.would do the tiling myself as we have done most other things but would need help and advise for the wet room tiling bit.Or can anyone help with a tiler. Will try and post pics later
  3. we are just about tearing our hair out trying to find a company in south somerset who does fast cure underfloor heating screed .how difficult is it for the ordinary layman to use or can anyone suggest a company as everyone is quoting anhydride screeds.
  4. Can anyone furnish me with how and where one gets the zero vat certificate and do we have to get it before work is started .part of the work is permitted development and also a very small extension .would a repacement floor for a room converted from a kitchen to a bedroom qualify for zero on materials
  5. yep will do nick just looking at the survayors report again and he said the damp meter showed no sign of damp but floor joists do not disintegrate in a matter of 6 months and he said when the drop heel test was applied there was no sign of structural weakness ,that has to be the biggest joke of all . tommorow the preservation man comes to let us know the couse of treatment and cost he is very good and comes highly recommended he charged £150 for the woodworm treatment.will try and sort out pics but as my laptop got the black screen of death and my camera software was on it i always have to figure out how i use it on this desk top as him indoors says the steam jobby.
  6. We are just on the s somerset border, bought a place last year did everything right had survey but like always surveyors have a cop out.The other night at about 1.30 crashing noise heard could not see anything wrong but by about 11 today one part of the floor had sunk 3 inches.managed to retrieve the fridge freezer and decided we had to find out what was going on.The flooring joist had totaly collapsed and the rot has extended across the kitchen about 10ft looks like dry and wet and we stongly suspect wood worm to .At the moment we are keeping our fingers crossed that the floor to ceiling fireplace does not fall down before we remove it.we have one very large hole and always trouble comes at the weekend. we were supposed to be having the garage converted to a usfull space but one estimate is a laughable £50.000 some builders do not turn up at all and so far two old dears have removed a chimney complete with asbestos flue and dug up a concrete floor 19ft by 18ft by hand .started to knock through to get the floor level right then todays disater happened at the other end of the house. The garage is single skin and needs internal walls and all the other things involved to make the place usefull. So i will be needing lots of help and advice to sort out before winter sets the electricty box was so high up even standing on a step ladder i could not see it let alone reach it to flick a swtich if the supply went off so the supply had to be moved and we are now £700 lighter for that to be done. More of the saga later i feel a book coming on that is if the whole place does not fall down before i get aroun to it .
