  1. Hi there Making slow but good progress and getting ready to serve Party Wall Agreements. I'm not trying to win any prizes but my stable block manages to have boundaries with 5 sets of neighbours! I just need a bit of clarity. I'm pretty sure they're all party wall structure notices not line of junction but would appreciate clarity/ advice before I proceed. I've coloured the 5 lines in the attached drawing all of which are the external walls of my building on my land. Each situation is as follows:- 1) External wall bordered by neighbours garden. Wall to be raised in height to achieve new pitched roof. 2) External wall bordered by neighbours garden. Wall to be raised in height to achieve new pitched roof. 3) External wall bordered by and joined to neighbours garden wall. My wall to be raised in height to achieve new pitched roof. 4) External wall bordered by neighbours garden. Wall to be raised in height to achieve new pitched roof. 5) External wall bordered by neighbours garden. Wall to be clad with batons and larch cladding. Any help much appreciated. I'm trying to do it myself (with a bit of friendly advice from a surveyor) and I'm on good speaking terms with most neighbours so not expecting any drama! Roof Party.pdf
  2. Thanks for that. Had a bonus day today randomly came across a new build in Sheffield where they're using proseam by Bradclad. Really liked the look of it got to chat with the roofing contractor on site who is using lots of it, says it works well with Velux etc. They also have a solar option with some very cool flexible panels that are laminated on to the roof panels. Anyone any experience/costings with either of these products?
  3. Hi there Working on a large two storey former stables outbuilding 17m x 5m x 6.5m which needs an entirely new slab with cavity drain and a tanking membrane floor to ceiling. Anyone had a go at this themselves? I'll be using Newton membrane and basedrain and taking out to a drain rather than using a pump as gravity is on my side and drains relatively easy to access. Any pitfalls I should be aware of? Rather naively perhaps it seems a case of drilling holes and taping up seams for the membrane and cutting channels for the basedrain and taping that to the membrane too? Cheers Dave
  4. Hi there The roof on large stable two storey outbuilding is spec'd to be metal profiled sheet. I can decide the profile and exact type of sheeting (anthracite colour) and wanted some advice. The roof area is 85m2 (17m long x 5m deep) and is monopitch at 15 degrees. There are 5 velux's going in and two flues for woodburning stoves. I've half a hope that I might be able to put solar panels up there at a later stage. The roof is going over rafter/OSB/110mm Insulation. Currently looking at standard corrugated wave form from Cladco partly for ease of installation and cost. Any alternatives worth considering with flashing for Velux in mind (not all metal profiles seem to work with Velux flashings) and the potential of adding solar panels at a later date? I'm also aware that presumably the less holes you put in a metal roof the better - but may not be able to avoid this?? Cheers Dave
  5. Hi there Four and half years ago we made the shortest possible move, hired a man but no van and moved next door. Partly a bigger house but with the bonus of a huge outbuilding at the rear of a courtyard garden spanning both our house and next door (ours is a semi). The outbuilding is a former stable block possibly with hayloft but has been knocked about a bit and has had the second floor height raised. Sadly not many original features but a few I'm hoping to reuse. We have planning for a 2 bed flat upstairs with workshop, studio and garden room with veranda downstairs. Trying to do as much as I can myself and have given myself a done by the time I'm 50 deadline (4 years to go). Main advice I'll be needing is on use of corrugated metal roof with velux, flue pipes and possibly solar! Also hoping to have a go at tanking with cavity drain. It'll need to be electric heating system as no gas supply. Currently bricking up the many gaps and then it's onto new lintels, padstones etc as specd by SE. Enjoyed reading some of the threads already. Good to know there's help out there!
