  1. Somehow overnight the waste pipe from the washing machine has come off the wall ending in a whole load of water soaking the floor (laminate) I've taken up all the laminate floor about 50% of it was wet underneath... Luckily we still have about 4 packs of it in the loft so enough to replace the wet boards. The flooring underneath I think is chipboard... This is currently wet. What is the best way to dry this out? Is it best to just let it dry naturally with a window open? Or use a dehumidifier? Electric heater etc? Most of the water was still sitting on the laminate when I came down this morning and I mopped it up so hopefully not a ridiculous amount got through. Many thanks
  2. I bet this is the horrible stuff isn't it? Danny
  3. Hi Peter not a clue when it was built! I found a newspaper beneath one of the board from the 1990s so I guess it's at least as old as that ? it is about 3m X 2m in size. The joists are 350 centres, and we only store a tent and some camping chairs up there. From what I can see there are 2 of the joists been cut where the opening was made. The two joists that have been cut have then had some kind of reinforcement put in, in the form of a few pieces of 6x2 connecting the cut joists and then also attached to the casing for the opening Hope that makes sense. Danny
  4. Never thought of that. I actually have quite a bit or PIR insulation I could stick to the current board which would keep it light enough to remove when needed
  5. Thanks I've actually looked on their site but could see the option to have a custom one. I'll have a proper look.
  6. Hi, Our loft space above the utility room currently has just a board laid on top of the hole and we are looking to tidy it up a little and reduce any heat loss. It is quite a large opening approx 800 x800 the largest drop down hatch I can find is max 650mm wide. Does anyone have any tips on making your own or know a company who supply larger sizes? It's only in the utility room so not wanting to spend a fortune getting one made Thanks Danny
  7. Hi, We have a side extension which is single story and is used as a utility room it has a pitched roof and small loft space which we use to store a few camping bits. Whilst I was tidying around in the loft space (which is mainly boarded out on the floor) I noticed there is no insulation at all. The roof joists are around 150mm deep. The door between the house and extension is just a normal internal door. So obviously I'd like to ensure the extension room is a warm as possible. Looking online seems to say you need minimum 200mm of insulation (if using rockwool or similar) for a loft. This would mean I'd need to use some of the stilts to put the boards on and lose most of the loft space. Selco have some 170mm knauf glass mineral insulation. I presume I could use this and the 20mm extra would compact under the board. Is this an acceptable solution? The room.does get warm when the dryer is on or when the sun is shining through the window. Thanks for any advice Danny
