  1. Yes, just not enough space to do standard bonding between layers and the idea of a stack felt like it must be breaking a rule! We're using starter clip on every course anyway so can carry that on Thanks!
  2. Hi, We're using a wall starter kit for an extension off our existing house. The position of one of the windows is only 330mm from the existing building so doesn't allow for the usual bonding of the concrete blocks we are using. Is it acceptable to form a pillar of blocks directly above each other or does this go against a building reg (our structural engineer/building control didn't point out an issue). Can't see any other way to do it! Thanks, Grace
  3. Hi, We're digging foundations for a 9mx6m extension. We were aiming for 1m trench foundations, but the ground has been very variable, and in areas we have had to dig deeper to get to solid ground, whereas in others we are hitting solid rock at <1m. We can cope with the additional concrete costs of just filling it all rather than a stepped foundation but I wondered whether we still need to use defined steps between levels in the base of the trench or whether a slope is acceptable? We're waiting on building control this week on whether the depth is acceptable where we've hit rock but would be helpful to know if we should be forming some defined steps in the meantime. Thanks! Grace
  4. Hi, just joined and hoping to pick brains when building regs/google/youtube just don't give a clear answer. We're self-building an extension to a circa 1870 detached house on a ridiculously steep Sheffield. Just at the stage of digging foundations, and crossing fingers for an 'Indian summer'. Thanks in advance for any help! Grace
