Thanks for all your responses. Interestingly, the conversation diverted to regulatory matters such as CDM compliance. As a chartered surveyor and project manager, I have acted in the capacity of Principal Designer under CDM (and new building regulations PD requirements) and have helped numerous clients navigate statutory compliance. This is exactly a service offering that my proposed venture would offer to self-builders. In response to the comment about added costs. I would take my cost from the MMC manufacturers or architect, so there would be no added cost to the client. In fact, there would be a significant saving as any good project manager will offset their fee from savings they can deliver through the programme. How does that sound?

Thanks for all your replies - wow! it has certainly sparked much discussion. This response from Mpx is particularly useful as these are all barriers that i'm hoping the venture can help overcome eventually. For now though, my platform concept is simply an online marketplace/showroom for MMC builds - think of it like Amazon for homes. Users can select from a variety of customisable models, all of which have been user-reviewed and quality-assured, etc... Please note this is just the initial offering; I would plan to evolve it over time to help smooth out all the hurdles noted in MPx post. I would be interested in getting your thoughts on the initial Markeplace concept?

Hi all, I would love your feedback on a concept I'm developing to make self-build and custom builds more accessible and easier. I'm a chartered surveyor and project manager, and noticed that there's a real gap in the market for the average person to choose a custom build over the boring generic new build developments churned out by the big housebuilders. As such, I am thinking of developing a platform to digitise land and building into a fully immersive digital environment, allowing people to visualise and customise their dream home pre-development. I would then project manage all the necessary disciplines to deliver their dream home! My intention is not to market or advertise this, simply to gather some valuable feedback from self and custom-build enthusiasts like your good selves 🙂 Many thanks in advance, Matt
