  1. Brilliant. The ones I have are just a thermistor on the end of a long lead, the proper ones will look rather better unless I can hide it somewhere. I would have thought the room temp wherever it is taken should effect water law, but who knows what's hidden in those chips.
  2. I don't like electric heaters because of the cost. However we were stuck last month on the coldest days with no central heating, the boiler packed up so we decided to take n the jump into a new system driven by a heat pump. So we had to find some emergency heating for the house , we had a portable gas heater and a couple of fan heaters but the firm installing the heat pump bought us some to use. We had a couple of portable oil filled radiators and some of these fan assisted connectors. These cheap ones works best, were quiet, heated the rooms fast and had an efficient thermostat. More stable heat than our fan heaters and quicker response than the oil filled ones, not as noisy as the fan heaters either. Light to move about as a bonus. Of course it electricity bills for the month were dramatically more.
  3. Hi Iceverge, I had a pretty standard system with 18mm press from boiler dropping to 15 to radiators, but some of the 15 served two or more radiators. The new system has 28 from boiler and as a spine running the length of the house, from there 18 with 15 only on short distances and only one radiator. The radiators seem to be almost double the size! As it was the power companies paying for the scheme it makes a difference because I am really tight and try to do things on the cheap! I do have some balancing to do with the radiators, the largest room is at the end of the pipework so I'll be playing with the flow to the other radiators. I was a bit disappointed as I had fitted"designer"radiators in some places and had already added a few to the old system ( the previous owners had some storage heaters) and they fitted the'normal' ones.
  4. Hi jenki, I w hoping you would say connect thermister to terminal xxx! Life is not that simple nowadays it all started to go downhill with the invention of the computer My dhw is working well, it has a tempest cylinder, commenced through a 3 way valve to the hp and the immersion heater is called a booster heater in the books. The thermister is in the lower of the two positions on the tank. The heat range is normally limited to 55C but as my wife likes a lot of hot bath water I also have the booster pump turned on as 55 is more than my hp is set for. I am going to set some times so the majority of heating for the water is fitting economy 7 time, but once it's sunny I will probably change it to daytime too use the solar input. If you need more detail then just shout. I have a solex inverter, it's taken me days and many phone calls to get the thing showing on my phone or pc, today I have succeeded! My router is not strong enough to reach the garage reliably.
  5. Hi jenki, I'm new, joined to ask you a question. I have a similar set up but only radiators. The installer put the controller and wired remote inside the cupboard where the circulating pump and loads of pipes are, I'm assuming the indoor temperature is taken from that - so it is obviously high. I've studied the books but can't see how to change it to add a remote thermister ( two came with the kit). That's my first question, I expect more will follow.
  6. Oops, seems I have started off well on this forum, copied the quote but not written my bit - that will follow. Just to read the manuals needs a.PhD!
  7. Hi, Tony here, I love in the mid of the Lincolnshire fens near Skegness. Hoping a bit of sun might dry the mud out a bit. Although I've had my share of self build and renovations I'm now settled into my retirement (for now), my wife says I should not get involved in heavy work now, emphysema seems to have slowed me a bit. I'm on here to learn a bit about air to water heat pumps. We took advantage of the offer for those with disability benefit, which my wife has. We had oil heating, the boiler broke so it seemed a sensible time to take the offer of a totally free heart pump system including solar panels. It is the first time I've had professionals working on any of me previous homes, except where it was because to have some form of check and certificate. The deal was not a quick bolt on, the whole central heating system was removed and new pipes and radiators fitted, so I'm hoping it will work well -so far it has. The system was put in with no real setting up, so I am hoping to tune it for evidence and economy. Samsung 8kw, 4kw solar, small 3 bed detached built in 1955, wall and thick loft insulation double glazed.
