You get too many contradicting information online regarding asbestos used in artex, plasterboard during the 1995 period. Some say definately no artex containing asbestos used during 1995, since it was banned in 1985, 10 years on, very unlikely? (only seems logic, banned in 1985, all surplus supplies is likely to be all used up by 1995) Others say not, artex containing asbestos was still available & used until 1999? As for plasterboard, virtually zilch containing asbestos used during 1995, many house builders stopped using them by the late 1980’s? Yes, getting it tested is the only way of definately find out, all this is just a load of bollocks!

What’s the possibility plasterboards used during the 1995 period contained asbestos? There’s a hole on one of the wall needs repairing with some broken pieces of the plasterboard intact. Best way to patch it up, presuming there’s asbestos in the plasterboard? To be honest, the more I look into asbestos online, I’m totally reluctant to do any drilling, diy & etc!

The asbestos test kit available online, are they accurate & reliable? Just presuming the artex ceiling, plasterboard have asbestos, I want to drill into the artex ceiling, maybe not channel the plasterboard as this most likely to cause more dust? Any advice on how to drill into asbestos artex ceiling or not worth the risk?

Does anyone have any idea if asbestos material was still used on houses built during 1995 and if so where to look out for it? After doing a bit of research, artex surface covering on the ceilings, walls is the most likely area to contain asbestos (artex containing asbestos was banned in 1985 but was still continued to be used until 1999) I have recently moved into a property, built around 1995 and all the rooms ceiling has been artex (artex has been there from new) I want to replace some of the old looking light fittings, smoke alarms which involves drilling into the artex ceiling However, I am not sure if the artex ceiling may contain asbestos, if I drill into it, what is the best, safest way of doing this? I also want to channel some wires into the plasterboard but not sure if the plasterboard may also contain asbestos? Anyone with any advice, knowledge or dealt with similar situation before? Thanks
