Just to add, loft space can go back to being storage. Staircase to it would also be removed.

Looking at a potential house to buy and trying to work out a ballpark discount required to get on with it. It had a double storey rear ext. 20 odd years ago with added loft space which for space, meant both of the ceilings of the extension are ~200mm lower than the existing house, thus creating an internal step (of approx 200mm) across the full width of the upper floor where old meets new. The existing upstairs hallway also had the ceiling lowered to create headroom for the staircase to the loft room. Attached the planning app drawing (back view and profile). Blue arrows - original house floor levels. Red arrows - extension floor levels Red boxes - very roughly where the upper ceiling should move to Assuming the lower ceiling is straight forward. Also assuming the troublesome part would be the upper ceiling meeting the rafters (bolted?), and supporting middle point of the roof /\/\ Can anyone offer any insight as to the potential size of this job (worst case problems, upper £££ to consider) to get the ceilings to match the old house and building regs?
