Hi , new member here.
Just starting the build of my new Garden workshop. I want to install an 1800 x 1800mm upvc french door (2.5m building height due planning regs so limited in how high I can have the doors) for the main entry and a side door for a sectioned off area for garden tools .
Any pointers/gotchas? I've read up on timber frame door/window sealing, it's more about the positioning of the door front/back in the frame. The studwork will be 95mm deep with plasterboard on the inside, outside will be clad using HardiePlank Cedar. It seems most doors are 70mm profile?
As per the attached sketch, I'll be cutting the bottom stud and placing the door on that (I have allowed 10mm top/bottom and 10mm side/side for fitting). The floor is 18mm ply on 120mm joists. Should I just put something like tyvek flewxwrap on the bottom of the door frame to protect the floor/studs.
The roof will have a 500mm overhang at the front and is facing East so water penetration shouldn't be too much of an issue, but want to be safe and as weathertight as possible. Any issues going for a french door with no sill, or is that not a good idea?
Many Thanks,
Dean
